President's

Corner

It’s hard to believe that it’s the holiday season again.  I suppose that’s a sign of aging but time goes by so quickly.  And after all the hard work, we can say that the Art Auction was a success.  We sold many tickets and filled the room.  The food and drink were wonderful as well as the handsome firefighters serving chili!!  I want to thank everyone involved but especially Kim Perdos and Danielle Janson.  They worked very hard and I am grateful.

We have kicked off our service projects with the Shelter and the transitional homes.  I think we have established a good relationship with them and I hope that we can have a good working partnership.

It has been a busy time in our club and we have a few more projects coming up.  Don’t forget to spread the work about the Silver Diner fundraiser on December 10th.  We receive a portion of the profits of the night so bring all your friends and family…then go shopping after dinner.  And mark your calendar for the January meeting on the 6th.  Dr. Belle Wheelan, Secretary of Education for the Commonwealth of Virginia and an honorary member of our club will be speaking.  It should be a great evening and a good opportunity to bring a guest.

So enjoy the holidays and I hope you are able to spend time with your family and friends

            ---  Connie

    What’s New?

 Two-Part Open Forum

Another innovation designed to save time and improve communication within our organization is a special two-part Open Forum.

The first part of the Forum will be dedicated to the discussion of general issues, and will allow questions to be directed to various Zonta leaders.

The second part of the Forum will be dedicated to bylaws issues.  Zontians will have the opportunity to ask questions and make statements about proposed bylaws in an effort to enhance understanding and intent.  Two hours will be set aside for this critical bylaws discussion, and should provide sufficient information to possibly curtail some of the bylaws discussion during the business sessions.

A Woman Should Have

… one old love she can imagine  going back to... and one who reminds her how far she has come

… something perfect to wear if the employer or date of her dreams wants to see her in an hour...

... enough money within her control to move out and rent a place of her own even if she never wants to or needs to...

… a youth she's content to leave behind...

… one friend who always makes her laugh... and one who lets her cry...

... a feeling of control over her destiny...

Letters …. We get letters

From Katherine Morse, Scholarship Winner

October 25, 2003

Dear Zonta Club Scholarship Committee and members:

I am writing to thank you for awarding the Edith Clark Nalls Scholarship to me.  I am very appreciative of your generosity and impressed by you organization’s dedication to the education of women.  I also would like to thank you for having me as your dinner guest at you October meeting.  I thoroughly enjoyed myself (and managed to do well on my test the next day!).  I look forward to be coming affiliated with your club as my career progresses.

I have signed your club up to receive the I/ON, a newsletter run by the Industrial and Organizational Psychology graduate students at George Mason University.  This will allow you to become familiar with the program you so heavily sponsored this year.  It may also provide a possible outlet for public relations as the newsletter’s readership include GMU alumni and local professional contacts.

Again, I thank you for your generous award.  I look forward to see you in the future.
